Good morning, all!

Why am I awake?  Whyyyyy?

I curse this sight:

Already been up twenty minutes at this point.

(Please don’t judge my disgusting microwave.  No, I have no idea why it has cat fur up that high.  I didn’t realize that beast fuzz could travel that far, either.)

And I embrace this sight:

Tons o' peanut butter, banana, brown rice cake.

I could never grow tired of that combination, ever.

I could grow tired of being up at five a.m., though.  Yep, definitely.

Anyway, I gotta haul my tail into the kitchen and scrape up some eats.  The house is wonderfully silent right now, and I’m secretly relishing this “me-time”…but why does me-time have to occur so darn early in the morning?

I hope everyone has a wonderful Friday!

Good afternoon!

I hope everyone is enjoying their Sundays.

Mine is being sorta funny in that I want to be lazy, but I want to be busy, too.  With school starting tomorrow and me being anxious as heck, I can’t sit still — I’m full of restless and anxious energy, but at the same time, part of me is saying, “Take it easy today because tomorrow, you won’t get the chance to breathe.”

I pottered around outside after breakfast, trying to tackle some yard work, but after about five minutes, my stomach informed me that it was about to digest itself and if I didn’t get food in there, stat, things could get ugly.

Funny how hunger sneaks up on you like that, ne?  By the time I sat down with my huge salad beast, my hands were shaking so much that it was hard to snap a photo.

Call Guinness, guys: this is the World's Largest Salad!

I threw in an entire large head of romaine, a couple servings of broccoli and cauliflower, a half a large tomato, a large mushroom, a cup of peas, and a heaping half cup-ish of chickpeas.

I threw on about a quarter to a third of a cup of hummus (didn’t measure, just eyeballed it) and a generous splash of hot sauce.  Or two or three.

I rounded off my lunch with a perfectly ripe pear.  (Yes, sister.  This time an actual pear, not a mislabeled plum.)

Wonderfully ripe and juicy Bartlett pear.

And since my lunch was light in the fat department, I stuffed two dates with a heaping tablespoon of peanut butter and shoved another spoonful into my mouth.

Love dates.  Seriously better than any candy.

That huge two pound tub of them that I got from Costco?  Nearly empty.  Le sigh.  I dread the day I run out.

Oh, and speaking of large tubs from Costco, since Amor bought those epic jars of peanut butter for me a couple weeks ago, I’ve already decimated one 28 oz jar (by myself!) and am steadily working my way through the other.

Clearly dates + peanut butter are an addictive combination.

Can't stop myself, and I don't wanna!

I tried to go back outside to finish up my chores, but alas, the poor hedge trimmer had died.  It’s currently on the charger now, but I’m feeling lazy.

I attacked some of the larger weeds with the oversized scissors designated for that particular chore, but they were dull and I have no idea how to sharpen them.

So I came back inside, and now here I am, vegging on the couch.

Almost out of these, too.

I ate this lemonhead, and now I’m trying to brainstorm on how I’m going to do this whole packed-lunch business.

My first class is at 11:30, and from there, I have three back-to-back classes until about 4:30.

I have a ten minute break between classes, but during each one of those breaks, I’m going to be hauling behind to the next class across campus.

I’m trying to figure out how I’m doing to do this lunch thing.  I’ll be getting up early enough that I can enjoy a large, healthy breakfast, but I get hungry very quickly, and will be starving before my first class.  I don’t know if I could eat in class, and besides, I think snacking down on large, stinky salads would be frowned upon.

What do you pack for meals when you’ll be out and about all day? I can’t eat sandwiches (no gluten, and GF bread is too expensive to eat every day) and I’ve ran out of bars.  What should I pack?

I’ll be at school until late into the evening as well, so I’ll have to pack enough to last me about eight hours or so.

Any suggestions?

Afternoon!

I was starving today!

This is why I don’t count calories: already, just after lunch, I’ve eaten more today that most people eat on a daily basis.

If I were hung up on numbers and calories, I’d be freaking out right about now.

However, I did two and a half hours of pretty intense yard work, and I’m PMSing up a storm.  Jus’ throwing that out there.

These pictures don’t really show the extent of what I’ve eaten this afternoon, but let’s try anyway, hey?

Pre-yardwork: date with peanut butter.

Then I went outside with a oversized pair of glorified scissors, and attacked the blackberry bush that seems intent on invading and summarily taking over the yard.

I ate its offspring as revenge:

Fresh blackberries from my yard.

Yes, I realize that berries aren’t just plant babies.  They’re, what, ovaries?

Or something?

Whoa, that’s now two references to the female reproductive cycle I’ve made during this post.  Go me!

Then, two and a half hours, the feasting began.

Post yardwork:

Making do with what's left in the house.

Tons of broccoli, tons of green beans, cup of peas, 2/3 cup chickpeas, half a ginorm avocado, serving-plus of spinach, two heaping tablespoons of hummus, and hot sauce.

Tasted like heaven.

Mouth wanted more.

I stuffed a plum in there instead.

Huge plum, very ripe and sweet and yum.

Still not satisfied.

Ate a Peanut Butter Cookie Larabar.

Frozen, of course, since that’s what the cool kids are doing nowadays.

Love these!

And, since that wasn’t enough, I had foolishly left an entire baggie of chocolate meltaways on the coffee table last night.

There were probably about 40-50 grams of chocolate in the satchel.

Without even having to leave my comfy spot on the couch, I leisurely reached for my chocolate fix.

I ate them.  All of them.  No doubting that.

Ate this, times, like...ten?

And that wasn’t enough.

Even as I type this, I feel that gnawing hunger in my gut that tells me maybe this isn’t food related?

I’ve been researching low stomach acid nonstop for three days, and I’m starting to suspect that might be what’s making me sick.

So, anyway.  I ate two huge (like, biggest ones in the box) dates with a tablespoon of almond butter.

Forgive the awful photo, but I was in the living room, where the lighting is awful.

And I still have this weird gnawing/cold hunger pain in my stomach.

Sigh.

Yes, I’m sick.  Yes, I feel like I’m doomed to be sick for like, ever.  Hiss, boo on you, body.

Do you prefer to do indoor chores or outside chores? It was either sweep the house, or prune the yard.  I chose the yard.

Evening!

Unpictured: tons of chocolate.

Pictured?

All this yumness:

My addiction. Can't get enough.

Fresh from my yard. My reward for mowing the lawn.

Bed of romaine, cup of peas, 2/3 cup chickpeas, 1/2 HUGE avocado (blended with about 1.5 servings spinach, hunk of onion, garlic, cumin, and lemon juice) and smothered in hot sauce and tons o' hummus.

Largest, sweetest plum ever -- the size of my fist, no joke.

Frozen, of course.

Snacky day. I love bananas.

Keeps my mouth amused. Love 'em.

Without peanut butter = just meh. With? Can't stop eating 'em.

I’m loving my makeshift guacamole, with the spinach in it.  It’s full of fat, creamy, delicious, and healthful.  I definitely prefer it over salad dressing.

Yep.  It was a crazy-snacky day, but I’m struggling with a tummy ache right now.  Something I ate last night disagreed with me.

(I can hear it in my tummy right now defiantly arguing, “No I did not!”  Eternally contrary, ’tis, my food.)

What’s the yummiest thing you ate this weekend? Definitely for me, the dates, and my sister’s spinach guacamole.  Yum!

Good afternoon!

I apologize for taking off yesterday without warning, but I had a pretty emotionally harrowing evening yesterday, and needed time to reflect on it.

I’m sure you all understand, and I appreciate it.

Today’s breakfast was huge and delicious, and was exactly what I was craving.

This was the most flavorful breakfast, ever.

I woke up hungry, which meant that things kept jumping into my cereal bowl without my knowledge, and by the time I was ready to assemble it, I realized that my typical 22-oz cereal bowl wasn’t large enough to hold it all!

These pictures do not do this breakfast justice.

After transferring the entire mess to a larger bowl, I was more than ready to dig in.

Chocolate, peanut butter, and banana in every bite.

I admit it, this is just a larger version of yesterday’s breakfast, with the addition of coconut-milk yogurt.

I added a thick layer of peanut butter to two brown rice cakes.

I filled each layer with chocolate MIM crumbs (2 tbs peanut flour, 2 tbs cocoa, 1/4 tsp baking powder, 1/4 cup applesauce, 1 large egg) and slices of a huuuuge banana.

I want to eat this every day.

I added well over a cup of almond milk, then topped it with tons of coconut milk yogurt (a half a cup-ish?).

Seriously, after I added the milk, the rice cakes and muffin soaked it all up, and I had a brimming bowl of delicious chocolate-peanut-buttery-banana bliss.

I’m not ashamed to admit that I ate like, 99% of this before my tummy was begging for mercy.

Are your eyes ever bigger than your tummy?  Have you ever filled your plate only to realize that there was no way you were going to be able to finish it? Yep.  Happens to me all the time.

And, further proof that I just make up titles as I go: yes, rice cakes do make better breakfasts.

Good morning!

I love Saturday mornings.  I always have — something about it simply exudes “me time” and despite having to get ready for work in a few minutes, I feel no great rush or urgency.

Saturdays are awesome.

My breakfast, too, was awesome.

Chocolate cake, peanut butter, and banana. Yes, I love breakfast.

I did not want hot cereal this morning.

I feel like perhaps I’m getting in a food rut with my kasha.  Now that I’m working again, sometimes I don’t have time to think.  I just sorta have to go on autopilot and get my meal started so I can start getting ready for work and/or school.

(School starts on the 30th — yikes!  I’m feeling nervous, to say the least.  It’s my first semester as a full time student AND working part time.)

Delicious crumbles of chocolate cake to soak up the almond milk.

Fortunately, I planned ahead and made myself an extra MIM last night.

I know.  I planned ahead with a MIM.  Who does stuff like that?

“Oh!  It takes an entire minute to make!  I better make it the night before!”

Yep.

Chilly-good almond milk rounded out this perfect meal.

Neveryoumind, I threw it in the microwave this morning for about fifteen seconds to take the chill off it, so my planning-ahead efforts only bought me thirty seconds, max.

Omigosh, guys, it was Seriously. So. Good.

I smeared three brown rice cakes with a liberal slathering of peanut butter, and layered them in my cereal bowl.  Between each layer were banana slices.

Make this! Now. Do it. You won't regret it.

Then I dropped warm crumbles of chocolate cake onto it.

When the warm cake hit the peanut butter, the peanut butter melted ever-so slightly, transferring its yummy goodness onto the chocolate cake.

There’s something about eating chocolate, peanut butter, and bananas first thing in the a.m. that makes everything just seem right with the world.

Plus, the almond milk turned everything into mush, which made each spoonful a homogeneous conglomeration of peanut butter, chocolate, and banana mush with both hot and cold textures.

I love breakfast.  I love eating.  Food is awesome.

Do you prefer hot cereal or cold cereal in the morning?  Or are you not a cereal person at all? I’m a hot cereal kinda gal, but something about cold cereal on a Saturday morning makes me feel like a kid again.

Evening!

I am so full right now.  If I was hungry earlier, then I certainly emerged triumphant, since I’m almost painfully full now.

Despite failing at my baking endeavors, it didn’t keep me from picking at my failed pastry.  I learned that if you bake date puree, it comes out like a fruit roll up.  I ate tons of that, which was encased in a high-fat pastry dough.

So, I was full, but lunch was so good I had it again.

So, so, so very yummy!

I discovered today that my beloved Frank’s Red Hot is mislabeled.

I emailed them about it, and hopefully hear back from them soon, but it states that a tablespoon of their hot sauce has 200 mg of sodium.

However, a closer look shows that their serving size is a misprint, and it’s actually 200 mg of sodium per teaspoon.

Um, wrong?

I seriously used about two tablespoons on my dinner tonight.  That’s 1200 mg of sodium right there.  Plus my peas have another 200 mg, and another 3-4 servings of hummus is 500-550 mg.

And I had it for lunch.  And a surprisingly salty breakfast, with the cereal and all.

I had the worst stomach pain all night yesterday and today — I’m not going to go into detail, but I got sick several times last night and today.  The only new thing I added was the hot sauce.

I imagine I’m going to be feeling awful all tonight and hopefully all this salt doesn’t ruin my birthday. =/

It’s my fault for not taking a closer look at the label, though.  My fail.

Have you ever eaten something only to discover it was not as healthy as you thought? Not that hot sauce is healthy, but geez — a teaspoon of salt’s worth added to my dinner?  Epic fail.

I realize I haven’t had any real fruit today, other than a banana and some dates.  Even though I’m full, something light like watermelon or an apple sounds good right about now.

Afternoon!

Guys, I got hungry this afternoon.

Like, famished.

Like, so hungry, I could eat my arm.

So I tried.

Omnomnom.

And failed.

Being a vegetarian sucks sometimes, just for that reason.

Pay no mind to my tatty hair.  I just hopped out of the shower and pinned it up without combing it.

And please ignore the bit of ugly bra peeking out, and what appears to be a five o’ clock shadow in my ‘pits.  I shaved.  I swears it.

And please pay no heed to the deranged look in my eyes.  I was hungry.  I promise, I’m not dangerous.

In fact, I’m quite ‘armless.

My cravings are out of control. Bring on the hot sauce!

I posted that pic just so I could make that joke.

I rock.

Get it?  I’m ARMLESS.  Because I ate my arm.  Because I was so hungry.  See?

I amuse me.

Possibly my new favorite lunch.

Lunch had to be fast, on account of my hunger.

I had some zucchini in the fridge that I kept thinking I was going to bake with, but kept not baking with them.

One already had to be thrown out because of mold, so I knew I had to act fast.

I sliced up one whole zucchini, chopped up a head of broccoli, and threw a cup of peas into a bowl and nuked them all together until tender, about five minutes.

My favorite Larabar!

I slathered them in about a half a cup of hummus, then drowned it in Frank’s Red Hot sauce.

I inhaled it all, then wanted more.

Instead, I attacked a frozen Larabar, peanut butter cookie flavor.

If you like Larabars, definitely try them frozen!

And dessert.

Since I was still a bit hungry, and still craving some sweet, I pitted two medjool dates and crammed them with peanut butter.

I stuck a dark choccy meltaway in each, then threw them in the nuker until squishy.

They had to cool for a couple minutes, which was torture, but oh so worth it in the end.

Gooey-melty action shot!

I keep filching these.  I swear, I’m out of control around them.

I also tried baking this morning, but failed, since I forgot the guar gum.

Didn’t stop me from picking at it, though.  Strangely enough, I’m still hungry.

Oh, by the way.  Breakfast?  Kept me reasonably full until about four-ish, when my hunger hit me like a vat-load of T-Virus which in turn resulted in me reanimating as a vegetarian flesh-eating KaZombie that tried to eat my arm.

Yeah.  That.

Have you ever been minding your own business and suddenly, out of nowhere — BAM! — you’re famished?  Do you keep snacks with you for food “emergencies” when you’re out and about? I always have food with me.  I hate being hungry!

Morning!

How is everyone?

Yay for Wednesdays!  That means tomorrow is my doctor’s appointment (and, coincidentally, my birthday — feels so weird saying that, for some reason) then Friday is just around the corner!

Fact: weekends now have no meaning to me.  After being bored all summer, I now work Fridays and Saturdays.  My weekends went from being perpetual to non-existent.

I’m not complaining, though.  Despite being occasionally uber-stressful, I actually really like my job.

Mmm, my favorite cereal, ever.

I woke up hungry this morning, but delayed gratification for a few minutes while I dishwasher and brewed a pot of tea.  Amor, being the awesome fella that he is, unloaded (my least favorite chore, really) it while I slept, so when I woke up, I was more than eager to tackle the mess that had piled up since yesterday.

By the time my tea was done percolating, and the dishwasher was humming, my stomach joined the harmony with its own assortments of growls and rumbles.

Breakfast had to be fast — I mean, they don’t call it breakfast for nothin’, ya know.  It’s not breakslow.  And yes, I’m looking at you, amaranth, the ponderous cereal that takes a stinkin’ half hour to cook.

I digress.

Just looking at this picture makes me want more!

Fortunately, I woke up knowing exactly what I wanted for breakfast today.

Despite it being grey and overcast this morning, I was craving a huge bowl of cold cereal.

While at the grocery store the other night, I picked up these beauties:

An old friend meets with a new friend!

Dude, these cereals rock.

They taste downright amazing, made with real food, are organic to boot, plus Winco sells them for about 2.70$ a box, which is a total snipe.

To give my breakfast some staying power, I slathered two brown rice cakes with two heaping tablespoons of peanut butter.

Every bite was bliss! So. Dang. Good.

I piled my rice cakes with a serving each of Peanut Butter Panda Puffs and Koala Krisps, added a sliced banana, then poured almond milk all over it.

And when I say all over it, I really mean, all over my cereal, the counter, the table, the floor, the cat at my feet who started yammering when he saw me pull the jar of peanut butter out of the fridge…

Yeah, I can’t train Oso to jump through a hoop worth beans, but he knows the sight of the peanut butter jar from miles away.

Good job, Little Bear.  You can tell he takes after me, no?

Back to the point: this was the most delicious, filling, awesome, yummy bowl of cold cereal ever.  The rice cake got a bit soggy, but that just meant that each bite was filled with a spoonful of peanut butter mush, and crispy-sweet puffs and krisps.  And banana.  Can’t forget the banana.

Do you need coffee/tea/caffeine to wake up in the morning? I blame my spilling of the almond milk on the fact that I hadn’t had my tea yet.  Yep.  That’s my excuse and I’m not budging.

Evening!

Okay, so, you know how when I worked last, I was like, “Omg, most awful stressful day at work EVAR?”

I lied.

Today was.

Even my boss turned to me and said, “No offense, but we always have the most crazy days when you’re working.”

Or something like that.

I can’t disclose anything, but boy.  I’m glad to be home.

Pictures o’ food?  Sure, you betcha.

Mid-morning snack. Held me over nicely, suprisingly.

Head of romaine, cup of peas, tons of broccoli and green beans, 3x serving of hummus, and tons of Frank's.

Pretty much demolished these while at work (before and after lunch snackage). Warning: salted mixed nuts are dangerous when dealing with a stressful, fast-paced environment.

Snacked on two rice cakes with peanut butter and applesauce before returning to work.

Yay for having my medjools back in my life! Ate two, and it was a miracle I didn't eat more. I was FAMISHED when I got home.

Sweet potato the length of my forearm, roasted into pillowy medallions, and topped with ~2 tbs almond butter (mixed with ~2 tbs almond milk to make a glaze).

Organic red grapes -- so sweet and juicy and good! Yum. Wasn't hungry, but they were too yummy to resist.

Favre-watch, anyone?

How do you unwind after a long day?
